Langley School District is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished leader for the position of Assistant Director of Facilities, Transportation and Capital Projects. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, Transportation and Capital Projects, the Assistant Director manages a team of Maintenance Trades Managers, who oversees the day-to-day issues of maintenance and repairs of district equipment and facilities, custodial, and securities issues, as well as a Manager of Transportation and Grounds, who oversees issues related to bussing, in addition to the Grounds department.
The Assistant Director collaborates and consults with diverse internal and external stakeholders and acts as a principal advisor to the Director of Facilities, Transportation and Capital Projects regarding the full range of facilities issues. The Assistant Director assists and supports the Director in functions related to Capital Planning, Capital Projects, and the Annual Facilities Grant (AFG), as well as in the planning and managing of maintenance programs for structural and operational maintenance of buildings, equipment, and property.
The Assistant Director works with the District Health and Safety Manager to lead Safety and Risk Management for the District’s facilities and equipment. With a thorough knowledge of local and provincial facilities and building standards, and with a background in Occupational Health and Safety, the Assistant Director’s work is informed and governed by how a school’s physical environment impacts teaching, learning, and a student’s sense of safety.
The Assistant Director of Facilities, Transportation and Capital Projects is an authentic and proactive leader who, in addition to a degree, diploma and/or professional designation, brings a proven track record of 5-7 years progressive leadership experience in a multi-union, public sector environment. The Assistant Director works positively and productively with union representatives and can support the growth and professional development of staff. The Assistant Director brings comprehensive technical knowledge of provincial and municipal building standards, and thorough knowledge of building technology, materials, and methods for architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines. In addition to exceptional analytical and planning skills, the Assistant Director thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple competing priorities. A natural communicator, both in written format and verbally, the Assistant Director establishes and maintains constructive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
