Director of Instruction, School Services-Filled!!!

VSBAn exciting opportunity to join a new team

Our large, urban and multicultural school district provides a rich array of programs to more than 50,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Serving our diverse district, our programs and services are designed to address complex challenges and provide extraordinary opportunities.

As the Director of Instruction, School Services reporting to an Associate Superintendent of Schools, you will have overall district responsibility for the supervision of a number of families of schools (25) and provide educational leadership and mentorship to Principals and vice-principals as you help them align District directions with the needs of their schools. You bring expert knowledge of curriculum, implementation of programs, pedagogy and innovative educational practices.

Along with leading and motivating your large, committed staff in the School Services department, you will serve as a member of the District Management Team and will be involved in the annual budgeting process, infusing your knowledge of the areas of curriculum implementation, teaching and research into the many strategic and priority-setting conversations.  In addition to providing educational leadership, you will plan and manage your departmental budgets, identify opportunities for growth and change, and champion a workplace climate that is positive, respectful and focused on student learning.

Outstanding interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills are key to success as you will build, maintain and establish new relationships with parents and community partners who share your vision of best practice in learning and instructional strategies for all students. You will also liaise with the Ministry of Education, other Ministries and organizations that have an interest in the success of students in our district.

Your background is exemplary. It includes extensive experience and graduate work in educational leadership, curriculum design, teaching practice and research. Your experience at a senior administrative level is complemented by a Master’s degree in education and eligibility for certification from the Teacher Regulation Branch of British Columbia. Finally, you can clearly articulate a comprehensive understanding of inclusion as it relates to the work of our school district within the public education system.
