A Secretary-Treasurer for

Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools

Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools

As one of the larger school districts in the province we are located on Central Vancouver Island.  The school district has a population of 13,000 students with approximately 1,850 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff, an overall operating budget of $135 million and an active capital program.

As Secretary Treasurer, you will be a trusted and valued member of the senior management team, working alongside and supporting the Superintendent or schools and as the Corporate Financial Officer of the Board.  You will oversee all aspects of District’s financial matters – including procurement, finance and payroll — and will ensure the District is in compliance with all accounting and administrative procedures specified by legislation and local policies.

With seasoned strategic thinking and a collaborative leadership style, you will be responsible for oversight of the provincial budget systems, of our internal accounting and financial control systems and overseeing the collection and preparation of information from a number of departments for budgeting and reporting. Key areas of active leadership include:  financial and corporate operations, legal affairs, purchasing, policies and procedures, financial information management, risk management, maintenance, facilities, caretaking, and long range planning and working with external and internal stakeholders. Finally, as the holder of the corporate record of Board proceedings you will provide guidance and support for Board operations and governance.

Using your innate ability to see the big picture while understanding the details, you will be able to successfully link our educational aspirations with our corporate necessities. This talent will also be behind your ability to identify areas of improvement and bring forward innovative new ideas and approaches.

You have a strong leadership background managing teams comprised of diverse roles and personalities. You have a proven track record in managing and directing high functioning capital planning and financial teams.  You have top-notch planning and management skills, along with the communication, analytical, problem-solving and leadership abilities to ensure your success.
