 The Board of Education of School District 57 is seeking a Superintendent of Schools

School District No. 57 is located in the centre of the province, extending north to Mackenzie, south to Hixon, and east to McBride and Valemount. The district encompasses 52,000 square kilometers and is the second largest school district in the province in geographical size. The district is a diversity of urban and rural communities.  It has a student population of 13,000 enrolled in variety of choice programs in 31 elementary schools, and 8 secondary schools. In addition, our Centre for Learning Alternatives provides alternate education programs, continuing and distance education programs, and education services to a small number of international students. The school district’s annual operating budget for 2015-2016 is $125.9 million. There are 1,850 administrators, teachers and support staff employed in the district.

Your inspirational and visionary leadership will be key as you take the helm of this diverse and dynamic district that has a model of decentralization and school based decision-making. Building trust, solidifying relationships and empowering others to excel, you have the drive and expertise to create and sustain optimal learning environments; sometimes acting as an agent of change, other times as a steward of existing success.  You have extensive and successful administrative experience as a principal and as a district leader.

Along with a strong K-12 background and a graduate degree, you have an excellent background of achievement. You have the business acumen, “out of box thinking” and management ability to take a plan forward to completion, while maintaining a focus on educational excellence and strong relationships. Compassionate, respectful and strongly principled, you are an open communicator who is able to work cohesively with a team, build positive labour relations and work effectively with district partners. You have experience with negotiations, grievances and managing a collective agreement.

You will leverage your strong sense of integrity and superb communication skills to build relationships and provide guidance to the Board of Education and collaborative leadership to the staff of the District.

The School District acknowledges that we are on the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh people in Prince George and McBride, the McLeod Lake Indian Band in the Mackenzie region, as well as the Simpcw First Nation in Valemount.

Prince George offers urban sophistication and spectacular wilderness side by side.  The city is the centre for Arts, music, theatre, recreation (pools, skating rinks, downhill and cross-country skiing) and home to major junior hockey, shopping with amazing amenities to appeal to youth and adults.  A transportation hub, four airlines, rail and bus serve Prince George connecting the region to the world.  Prince George is seen as an educational destination with the location of the University of Northern BC and the College of New Caledonia within the community.
