Superintendent of Schools(School District No. 57 Prince George)- FILLED!!!

SD 57

School District No. 57 (Prince George) acknowledges that it operates on traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh people in Prince George and McBride, the McLeod Lake Indian Band in the Mackenzie region, as well as the Simpcw First Nation in Valemount.

The Board of Education for School District No. 57 (Prince George) is seeking a compassionate and collaborative educational leader to fulfill the role of Superintendent of Schools. The Board of Education will oversee an operating budget for 2019-2020 of approximately $148,000,000. On behalf of the Board, some 2,300 employees provide service to 13,000 students in 41 schools, including a Centre for Learning Alternatives, in the communities of Mackenzie, Robson Valley, and Prince George.

The Central Administration Office for the School District is located in Prince George, a vibrant city of 78,000 people, with a thriving arts and music community, excellent recreational facilities, and several local post-secondary institutions. The city combines the very best of urban amenities with immediate access to unspoiled wilderness. It is a strategic hub for education, health, business and industry, as well as transportation, with four airlines operating daily service from its airport.

The Board is seeking a seasoned educational leader to work with them to build on a long tradition of exemplary service to learners, while forging a transformative path to even greater learner success. The school district uses a decentralized decision-making model. A recently developed and operationalized Strategic Plan, collegial relationships with employee groups, and a strong sense of community are just some of the assets already in place. Working with the Board to implement a new governance and policy development model, responding effectively to ongoing and new Ministry of Education initiatives, and responding to the moral and educational imperatives of the Truth and Reconciliation process are tasks that remain.

The successful candidate for this position will have had successful previous experience in an educational leadership role, as well as being able to provide evidence of:

A commitment to equity for ALL learners, particularly those who are disadvantaged or vulnerable

A collaborative, conciliatory, and constructive approach to relationships with internal and external stakeholders, many of whom are governed by collective agreements

A strong background in and successful experience with change management and system transformation

An ability to initiate, create, and maintain trust in people, systems, and processes

Flexible, creative, inclusive, innovative, and ethical approaches to problem-solving and decision-making

Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills

Understanding of the complexity of all aspects of school district operations and  British Columbia’s educational direction and context
